Carolyn Jones | ||||||||||||||
Born in Amarillo April 28, 1930, Carolyn attended Amarillo High
School. She was the daughter of Chloe Jeanette Southern, a
housewife, and Julius Alfred Jones, a barber. Her father abandoned
the family when she was four.
Carolyn's film career ran from 1952 to 1979. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in The Bachelor Party in 1957 and won a Golden Globe Award in 1958. Her last film was Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff. Jones appeared in her first film "The Turning Point" in 1952. She appeared in several episodes of the TV series Dragnet. had a bit part as a nightclub hostess in The Big Heat in 1953, and a role in House of Wax. In 1954 she played Beth in Shield for Murder, earning $500 per day for playing the role. She played Morticia Addams in the Addams Family. Her acting career declined after The Addams Family ended in 1966. Sporadic roles in the 1970s included that of Mrs. Moore, the wife of the plantation owner in the miniseries Roots. Carolyn Jones died of cancer on August 3, 1983 when she was 53 years old. |
