1920s Bus in Ira Texas

In 1925 Ruby Giddens and a friend posed on an early bus in Ira Texas for this amazing image of life in Scurry County in the 1920's. In the background one can see the old open air tabernacle where different churches held their revivals and it was also used for other community functions.

 

The city of Ira's history began sometime in the early 1890s, when Ira Green established a general store in the area. Green's store became a meeting point for the stagecoach and mail route, and a community began to spring up. A school opened in 1893, and Ira Green became postmaster when the community's post office was activated three years later
