The Royal Publisher of Oz strives hard to not only present exciting and creatively artistic literary fantasies, but to maintain continuity with the series begun by L. Frank Baum, which has expanded to include the 60 books of canon and additional stories as delineated on the Mainline Timeline of The Royal Timeline of Oz. |
|
Mission Statement
The Royal Publisher of Oz does not accept as true the corporate entertainment industry's claim that continuity stifles creativity, a stance that we believe is rooted in crass commercialism, apathy, and the betrayal of fans. As evidenced from our books, we know the opposite is true: continuity encourages and promotes creativity. It also rewards its fans, new and old.
Irrespective of the many re-imaginings, reboots and alternate perspectives that Oz has seen since it first debuted in 1900, Baum's original Oz series that we present here and on The Royal Timeline of Oz represent the single longest-running series in the history of fantasy fiction and literature! Along with expanding Oz and its environs, that is a legacy we intend to honor and preserve. |

By L. Frank Baum & Andrew Heller Illustrated by John R. Neill & Javi Laparra 360 pages Rinkitink in Oz is considered by many of L. Frank Baum’s fans to be one of the best books in the Oz series. Ironically, Baum did not intend for it to be an Oz book at all!
Baum wrote King Rinkitink in 1905 as a non-Oz fantasy, but it was not until 1916 when he dusted it off and tacked on an Oz ending that the book saw print. Unfortunately, the original manuscript and ending were lost.
Now, a century later, the International Wizard of Oz Club has brought King Rinkitink to a satisfying resolution that is true to the original intent.
When sea-raiders invade the peaceful island of Pingaree to enslave its inhabitants, only young Prince Inga, jolly King Rinkitink, and his grumpy goat Bilbil are left behind. Aided by three Magic Pearls, the unlikely heroes set out to rescue Inga’s people, a quest that takes them on adventures across the sea and into the dangerous underground lair of the Nome King.
King Rinkitink restores Baum’s original vision by allowing the characters we have come to know and love save the day with their wits and courage, instead of interfering sots from Oz and an anti-climactic ending. With the publication of King Rinkitink, the true story, long suppressed by nefarious agents of a certain magical realm with a two letter name (the second letter is a “Z”), can at last be told!
Two versions exist, a Deluxe Hardcover with numerous b&w illustrations and 12 color plates (including two new ones by Javi Laparra) and a standard hardcover version with all the illustrations (including the color ones) in b&w.
