Ron Jones |
|
|
|
|
Ron Jones was born in Windsor. He coached in the
Windsor Minor Football League for fifteen years and worked with
the Windsor Boxing Club. He served three years with the Urban Alliance
and an additional three years with the National Black Coalition
of Canada, attaining the status of Past President in both organizations.
In 1966 Jones joined the Windsor Fire Department and in 1995 he
became the highest-ranking black officer as the District Chief. |

Ron Jones was elected as a trustee of the
Windsor Board of Education in 1980 and served until 1992 including
serving as the Chairperson of the Board in 1986. Jones elected to City
Council October of 2002 representing the residents of for Ward 2 .
Councillor Jones was re-elected in November of 2003. Along with his
volunteer commitments, he represents City Council on 15 area committees
and is a member of the Canadian Legion, Branch 143. |

Shelley Harding-Smith |
|
|
|
|
Shelley Harding-Smith was elected to the Board of
Trustees of the GECDESB in 2000. She is serving her second term
as trustee for wards 1-2-3. Ms. Harding-Smith has served as Vice
Chair of Operations and Finance. For the past year she has served
as Vice Chairperson on the Education Committee.
Shelley is a Licensed Master Electrician and Industrial Controls
System Technician. She is a recipient of the Champion for Education
Award and is committed to promoting a safe learning environment
and life long learning. Shelley Harding-Smith has been an advocate
for the enhancement of African Canadian studies in the public school
system. |

Mike Allen |

|
|
Mike Allen was born in Windsor in April of 1947.
He began working at Chrysler Canada in 1968 and quickly achieved
a supervisory position which he maintained from 1969 to 1974. Allen
went on to become a Millwright at Maple Leaf Monarch.
Over the years Mike Allen has combined his skills and expertise
with a passionate dedication to assisting others in the community.
He has assisted many organizations in the region including the
United Way and the City of |

|
Windsor Ethno-cultural
Committee. He has served on the Board of Governors of St. Clair College
including two years as the Vice Chair of the Board. He was the Treasurer
of the C. A.W. Aboriginal/Workers of Colour Caucus. He has worked
to preserve African Canadian history as both the Vice President and
the President of the Board of Directors of the North American Black
Historical Museum.
Mike Allen was first elected to the Board of Trustees of the Greater
Essex County School Board in 1991. He served as a trustee until 2003
and chaired several important committees for the Board including
the Operations and Finance Committee, the Grievance Committee and
the Negotiations Committee.
Most recently Mike Allen was served as a member of the board of the
Canadian Mental Health Association and the International Freedom
Festival. He is currently a member of the Ethno-cultural Committee
and the National Canadian Association of Skilled Trades. Mike Allen
continues to work to promote African Canadian Heritage in the region
as a member of the Board of Directors of the African Canadian Community
Centre of Windsor and Essex County.

Dan Allen |
|
|
|
|
Dan Allen was elected as a City Councillor in
1994 and served until 1997. He served on several municipal committees
and boards. From 1998 to 2002 Dan was a member of the Windsor
Police
Services Board. He also served as the Vice-Chair in 2001 and
2002.
Dan has dedicated a great deal of effort and time to United
Way, Crimestoppers, the Capitol Theatre, the Art Gallery of Windsor
and the North American Black Historical
Museum. He has also been active in various |
|
fund-raising events.
In May 2002 over $16,000 was raised at a Community Event held in his
honour
to raise funds for the Sandwich First Baptist Church.
Dan and family moved to the Ottawa area and he became the Senior
Advisor on Equity and Diversity for both HRSDC & SDC, a position
he held until March, 2005. On April 4, 2005 Dan assumed the role
of Director, for the Greater Ontario Area for Citizenship and Immigration
Canada. |
