African Canadians have played a vital role in the economic development of the Windsor and region. Since the early 1800’s African Canadian settlers cleared land established farms and forged a living in the area. An African Canadian was one of the first five Postal Carriers in the region. The driver of the first electric streetcar in North America was also
African Canadian. Around the turn of the 20th century we begin to find records of African Canadian businesses in the region in city directories. The following links provide information on many of the ways African Canadians have excelled in the fields of business, services and skilled trades.
